I looked at some deals other companies were offering and called my cable/tv/internet provider and told them to see if they could match the deal or I planned to move to other company, they matched the deal and gave me unlimited long distance and a free premium chanel saving over 300 a year. It never hurts to ask. Just be polite and if they say no ask to speak to a superviser, stay polite.

Just ask. Call up your cable company and ask them if you qualify for their promotional rates. Every time I have asked they have been able to lower my bill by at least $20 a month for cable alone. (Extra savings if you bundle your services).
If you are willing to play hardball or to take your business elsewhere you can probably get rates even lower.
Most cable companies offer different packages based on the number and type of channels you get. Problem is you actually don't watch most of those channels except for a few of them. Look on your computer and see if you can get the program you want through the program's website. If you can get your desired program via internet cut your cable back to basic programming. Also you can checkout movies from your library for free.
Due to the fact that my cable bill went up $20 a month and my rent went up $10 a month, I cancelled my cable the end of January. Living on SS, I have to be very creative on how I spread out my income, I can get all the news on the radio and I don't have to sit an watch anything. I don't miss the tv at all. All that seems to be on these days is sex and nudity on most stations and i can't see paying a dollar a day for tv.
I can also get news on the internet that I get for free. It is dial up but it is better than nothing. I get more walking in and less sitting plus I have some savings for a rainy day.224
