When Cleaning A Room,Take 2 Things Out Or Put 2 Things Away!

I have a " work-in-progress"room I am cleaning~~the scrapbook room [or as we scrappers say-the "scrap" room]! I am trying to get it ALL cleaned ,but with a preschooler under foot and all the housework this stay-at-home mom is doing,it's not HIGH on the list [my reason--I can close and lock the doors!--though I DEARLY LOVE TO SCRAPBOOK AND WANT TO FINISH IT!]. So,for now, when I pass by the room or go into it,I ALWAYS try to put TWO things back in their place or take them out to where they should
be--another room, the BIG trash can outside, etc. This HELPS ME feel that SOMETHING IS GETTING ACCOMPLISHED in that room ,even if it is a small way of cleaning up~[Note: it IS a very small room!].

If I'm cleaning 1 room and find something that belongs in another room, I go to the other room and find myself cleaning in there. Instead, I now use empty laundry baskets to hold all the things that go in other rooms. When I'm done in room 1, I take the basket of stuff that belongs in room 2 and put them away, then room 3, etc. That way, I avoid running from room to room and I actually get at least 1 room completely clean! 334
When my house gets messy and it starts to feel overwhelming, I don't try to clean it perfectly right away. I designate one corner of a room (or big laundry basket) to hold all the bits and pieces that need to be put somewhere else, and clean the rest of the room. It saves a lot of running around the house in circles putting things away and makes "most" of the room feel organized quickly. Then I can deal with the pile of stuff more easily.
When I was younger I used to get so overwhelmed when my mom told me to clean my room. One day my mom told me to start at the door of my room, pick up the closest thing then put it away. I was having so much fun deciding what was closest I didn't realize that my room was clean. I still use this.
