My grandmother told me this once and I love this tip for it's simplicity.
The concept is basically, not everything on the plate has to go in your mouth. It's a little hard for me to do sometimes, since it involves unnecessary waste, but I still think it's a worthy healthy eating technique.

The other night for example: I made a huge pot of spaghetti for hubs and I for dinner - instead of keeping the high-carb, high-cal leftovers in the fridge to munch on for the rest of the week, I tossed what was left in the trash and went for the healthier food items to snack on for later.

If you eat crap, that's exactly what you'll feel like. If it comes in a box, bag, or can and has a ton of ingredients you can't pronounce, put it back. I stopped eating processed garbage and I feel and look SO much better. My skin and hair look fantastic, I rarely get sick anymore, and that last stubborn 5 pounds is gone for good.
Freecycle.org can help you in many ways. If you have a gently used item that you don't want but would rather not throw out, someone on freecycle may be looking for it. And, sometimes a freecycler has exactly what you want and is willing to give it to you.

While health is important, remember to not base your self worth on that number the scale reflects. You can be beautiful but ugly on the inside. Real beauty comes from within and radiates out. Sometimes it takes a second look, but those who aren't willing aren't people you want around you anyways!
