It is important to remember that being overweight or obese didn't happen over night and it takes building new habits, one at a time to over come. Fast break goals are those "baby steps" that we need. Pick something that you know will help make a difference and whittle at it--after a couple of weeks, add on a new goal to the first one. (If you try to change everything at once, it will probably burn you out and you will "give up.") 306
I started out with 10 minutes of activity (walking) a day, eating 3 servings of produce, and tracking at least one meal daily. That turned into 5-6 servings of produce which took over for servings of junk food, at least a 2 hour workout in the pool each day, and tracking all my food and activity.41
I use to try and force myself to use the eliptical machine and the treadmill. I did this because I knew it burned more calories and would be better for me than just walking. Well, I could rarely force myself to do it and would constantly just stop working out all together. Then I realized that those machines would could burn more calories BUT I would actually have to use them! So, I decided to just do what I enjoy... walking around the block... That's something that I'm able to stick to
