This is a great idea when I only need a few items, but with a family with 3 teenagers, I NEED a cart!
LAINYC1/3/2013 9:35:00 AM
I do this most of the time. It really cuts down on impulse buying.
GINA1808473/5/2012 6:36:00 AM
I find if I plan my meals and make a list and then only buy what is on the list I do need a cart or my arm suffers too much. After all I only want to go to the store once a wk. and in our home in Canada where we live 100 km. from the store I only want to go once every two wks.

Now I am shopping for a family - so I tend to use a cart. However, when I was single - I lived by the rule that I would only purchase enough that I could carry. That way I had to use the products; nothing went to waste ... and it would also discipline me to make frequent trips (the grocery store was walking distance from my apartment).

thats def good advice, i usually try to grab a basket to save money anyways lol, keeps me from buying extra stuff i dont need if i know i only have room for what i need. the slimfast bottles do tend to get a little heavy though lol
RASIRE1/8/2013 12:38:00 PM
good advice!
CHERYLSBUTT1/5/2013 7:32:00 PM
I do this every few days fresh fruit and veggies deciding on menu for the next couple of days I also tend to park away from the store...more steps!
LEANMEAN21/5/2013 6:56:00 AM
This would work when you run in for just a few items but I do a week's shopping once a week. There is no way I could carry all of that, but thanks for the suggestion.
AMANDACOETZER1/4/2013 7:58:00 AM
Thanks
BANNERMAN1/3/2013 11:37:00 PM
try to when feasible.
KITTYCART81/3/2013 9:48:00 AM
I do this all the time as I shop often and try not to buy many things that come in packages. I also always try to carry my grocery bags, to the car...parked at the back of the lot! I think its a great idea!
DEBBYNATION1/3/2013 8:34:00 AM
Yep!

It's been many years since I could carry my groceries in a basket. I need the cart to make it around the huge stores. I also bring a folding stool so I can rest my legs when I need to.
CHERYLSBUTT3/5/2012 9:18:00 PM
i LOVE IT! i TEND TO SHOP DAILY, THE STORE IS CLOSE IN GOOD WEATHER i CAN WALK THERE AND I Am BUYING FOR 2 SINCE MY SON WENT TO COLLEGE!!
KJOHANEK13/5/2012 7:49:00 PM
That is such a simple idea that makes sense. Plus you get an arm workout :)
GYMRAT_AT443/5/2012 6:36:00 PM
Great idea.
MEXIHOLIC3/5/2012 1:42:00 PM
This is a standard rule for shopping at Walmart, when the arms are full or hurt time to go and it has saved me hundreds, maybe thousands of dollars on useless items.
ALICOTTER3/5/2012 1:34:00 PM
As a single person the only time I get a cart is when I have to buy dog food. The big bag of dry just doesn't fit into the cart. Plus that is usually the only time I shop the aisle of the grocery store. try to keep my shopping around the out side of the store. Fresh and frozen foods.
SOCDIRECTOR3/5/2012 12:38:00 PM
Such a great idea. But when buying for a growing family, I usually fill the cart with all my parameter shopping alone. I already steer clear of the inside aisles as much as possible.
TAYGRL3/5/2012 12:32:00 PM
GINGERVISTA3/5/2012 11:38:00 AM
Good idea for when picking up just a few things.
RLAMBERTSC3/5/2012 9:55:00 AM
Great tip, thanks
LTMURPHY73/5/2012 9:00:00 AM
I've a bad back but I'll tryt it
STRRRETCH233/5/2012 7:40:00 AM
I think it's a great idea and on quick trips to the grocery store, I will use it. Also, putting everything right into the reusable tote makes sense. It's simple enough but can make a big impact over time.
PUDLECRAZY3/5/2012 5:58:00 AM
LOL! Living in a small health conscious town helps, too because everyone always looks in my cart and feels free to comment on it.
HYATTI13/5/2012 5:46:00 AM
Great advice if you can get away with it but what about the 100's who can't walk, or carry, or move properly what do they do????
KATEM2003/5/2012 5:30:00 AM
As a single person, I definitely do this. I usually do it as "whatever I can carry" or "whatever I can fit in my canvas bag" with my gallon of milk being carried separately. It's amazing how easy it is to look at a box of cookies and pass by it if you just don't have space for it.
SLEEPYDEAN1/15/2011 12:03:00 PM
I do something similar, but with my reusable shopping bags. I usually take two of my bags in and when they both get unbearably heavy, it is time to go!

a different protein
I started using TVP, textured vegetable protein in most of my meat cooking. It looks a bit like oatmeal. Use about a 1c to 1 1/2c in a meat sauce, or a 1c + 1c water, let rehyd in lean ground meat, it has no fat but all the protein. TVP is tasteless, it takes on the favors you add, wonderful stuff.

I recently bought a "PURE" water bottle with freezer stick and water filter system. Its a 32oz bottle with the water filter inside. I don't like tap water and have spent a lot of money on bottled and when I found this buy for $10.00 I thought it was a steal the filter is supposed to last for 300 fill ups. The water taste great.91
