The best trick I've learned so far is dividing my dinner plate - 1/4 lean meat, 1/4 starch, and 1/2 veggies or fruit. Not only does it aid in portion control, but it's so EASY and is something you can do in almost any & every eating environment.

When eating at a buffet style restaurant, the way to keep on track is section your plate in four sections or five, put low calorie vegetable in three sections and the other something you really want. This helps me stay on track and I know that I am eating my vegetables and low calories at that time, and is easier to stay within calorie range.244
Most people hate having to weigh and measure their food portions. To save time, get a plate that has three section in it. The largest section should be for your salad/veggies serving, one of the smaller ones is for your protein serving and the other one is for your carbs/starches.
No fair piling on the food though it has to fit inside the section neatly
