This is a useful tip for when you are eating out. Restaurants generally set up ingredient portions (nuts, berries, cheese) ahead of time for salads. Ask them to bring you your salad with add-ons in their pre-measured cups. That way you can control these portions on your salad!
MORE INFORMATION:
Eat half of your restaurant salad and take the rest home. It is usually more than enough for another meal. Also, because the ingredients aren't on the salad you can choose to use them in any combination or even with other foods.

speak up for the salad bar when your coworkers are picking a restaurant for lunch, and remember calories count, so pay attention to how much and what you eat
Lime juice can serve as a healthy, low-cal substitute for salad dressing. I have found that I prefer the zing of lime on my salads! Salads in restaurants usually have enough added calories before adding the dressing. One way I keep the calories and fat down is to bring a cut lime in a baggie when I plan to order a salad at a restaurant. Ask them to hold the dressing, squeeze on the lime at the table, and enjoy!
