I am full and satisfied after eating 4-6 oz of greek yogurt. It is a great source of protein and is a thicker (like pudding) satisfying snack. I have to be careful not to eat too much a day because I really like it!
I have found that for me as a bariatric weight loss patient that I can mix the Greek yogurt with protein powder. My favorite is peanut butter protein and plain Greek yogurt. OK, YUM! I use it for my snack and it is very satisfying like peanut butter pie filling WITHOUT the GUILT!
This helps me get my 60 grams of protein in each day. It's too easy to eat simple carbs as snacks which is not the best choice for me.. This satisfies my need for peanut butter flavor without eating peanut butter crackers. They are considered a slider food and not good for me! They are so easy to eat turn to mush and slide right though with lots of sodium. It's easy to graze on them all day long and then not really eat healthy.
I have found that Greek yogurt can be substituted in many recipes in place of sour cream as I am sure many of you have. I use it with cucumbers in the blender to make a dressing, chop it with onion, and dill, to make Taziki sauce, or with sliced cucumbers and onion for a salad. It is so versatile and useful and good for you with the probiotics as well!
Gut health is so important to a healthy lifestyle and after reading more on the topic I found out I don't eat many other fermented foods recommended. Yogurt is a primary way I improve my gut health along with eating healthy food choices. I also supplement with probiotics to help. The gut can only use what we put in it and is responsible for so much of why we are actually healthy. So it's a choice a choice of what we put in it to fuel it. Greek yogurt is an excellent choice!
