If you use dryer sheets the wax builds up on the vent. Take your dryer vent and run water over it, you will be surprised, water will sit in the vent, but the vent looks clear. Take an old toothbrush or any kind of brush, and scrub it with soap and hot water, let dry, and in 30 seconds or less you have a very clean filter. Clogged dryer vents are a leading cause of house fires, and dryer heating elements going out. Add a few years to your dryer, scrub that filter.

Put two used dryer fabric softener sheets in one load of laundry, it works as well as one new sheet. A box of fabric softener sheets will last twice as long.
I keep track by keeping the used sheet on top of the dryer by itself until I do another load of laundry...the third load of laundry always gets the two used sheets. After using the two dryer sheets together, I use them as an easy, static free way to clean the dryer vent and then toss.
If you have the vents that pop right off like I do (I have wall vents) you can lean it forward and place a dryer sheet in there! The dryer sheets are used to heat (from using them properly) so you don't have to worry about it being a hazard and this works for A/C time of year as well! I pop a new one in before company comes over and it keeps the house smelling fresh for hours! 345
