Sometimes it's hard to distinguish between the clothes you wear and the clothes you like but never wear. Use this method and be on your way to a decluttered closet in 30 days.
When my closet becomes too cluttered, I go in and turn all the hangers (with the clothes on them) backwards. Any item that I wear gets washed and hung back up with a forward facing hanger. At the end of 30 days, any garments that are still on backwards hangers gets donated to good will.

Added bonus, most goodwills or similar organizations give you receipts for tax writeoff purposes, which when I get a few of, i can use to convince the hubby that I have "saved" us enough to buy a great new outfit

I do it in January and go through all the seasons since I only have the one closet and keep all my clothes in there.

Very cool. I like this idea a lot because sometime I get (well let's be honest most of the time) emotionally attached to clothes and I don't even wear them anymore. I've had them for years, but I don't want to give them away. WHY? This is a very good system. Thanks.

I do something similar:
I weed the closet and first get rid of things that I know I don't want, then move the maybes into my guest bedroom closet. If I decide to wear something from the guest closet, it goes back into the main closet. Then, the next time I closet weed, anything still in the guest closet immediately gets put in the Goodwill pile.
Doing it this way, it's easier to see the stuff I do want to wear!

I love this idea - however I would definitely forget to switch hanger orientation. I think I will pin a safety pin to the item and only remove it when I wear it.

think I will try that!

Each of these time limits allowed us to focus on what we were working towards and helped us COMMUNICATE what was important to each of us and what we could do...]
