a meal planner and calendar is crucial for me to make sure i get everything i need every meal. i don't like running short - and i like to prepare a lot in advance. it saves me money as i make sure the week of shopping specials is how my menu is planned. using coupons, taking advantage of sales and buying in bulk if it is an item used often is very helpful. it is mentally satisfying also and you are never caught without food even if some one drops in unexpectedly.

I love ice cream and I have started putting the day on my calendar and when I eat out for a meal I don't have ice cream that week. SO I put the meal on the calendar also to track both and not indulge twice in one week on the same thing.
I like to use a calendar to map out my goals, whether short-term ones or the long term one, and I use colored pencils and even stickers on it. It's just a fun visual thing to do. ( I found a web-site where you can print a calendar page for each month with very little ink, any month you want.)

I use a small calendar to menu plan for each month. I keep this in the kitchen near the pantry. I note ratings on my "new" recipes (keeper, etc).

This calendar helps with shopping, while looking through grocery store flyers. I try to make one new, healthy recipe from SP, listing it on the calendar. This calendar really helps keep you out of "meal planning ruts"! I can pull out last year's and find something I've forgotten about cooking.
