I came from a large family and developed a habit of eating even though I was full, for fear that I wouldn't get "enough" food. When I had my own family I had trouble downsizing recipes. There was always too much and, of course, I ate it (2nds & 3rds). In recent years, I have started making just enough for one serving per person. If anyone is still hungry after, I offer green salad to fill the gap. It's been working really well for me and my family. I hardly ever over eat anymore.

    Thanks for sharing this! I also come from a large family (I was the oldest of 6 kids). I now have 5 kids of my own and find that those habits of cooking too much to make sure there is enough for everyone has contributed to the fact that myself, husband & most of my children being overweight. I'm going to try making the salad and offer that to whomever may still be hungry after we eat

    That is a great idea, I have the clean plate syndrome and I think that would help me quite a bit!

I too am from a family of 8 children and Mom and Dad. There wasn't any food left and we use to go get candy and fruit cocktail and eat the whole can not a good ideal. I am glad you have learnt how to compensate and help your family also. You have a win, win situation and I am proud of you. Love Spark people. May God bless you.
