Instead of using a white sauce in your pie fillings, just add wine or a light flavorsome stock or broth (home made of course) and add just enough corn flour to thicken it to the desired consistency. I generally use no more than 1 teaspoon for 6 portions of pie. Also saves on all the processed flour you would otherwise be eating.

I steam my veg in either reduced fat chicken stock or vegetable stock. They taste super yummy! And it makes me want to eat more. another good tip is using evaporated milk(low fat) and a little corn starch to thicken sauces, it gives a really creamy texture to recipes without having to use the high calorie heavy cream.
