I think that the event of the New Year is great - it let's us have a fresh start on all things (especially if we're trying to find a "line-in-the-sand" time to start - say, like renewed vigor in our personal SparkPeople program). Research has shown that it takes people approximately 28 days to pick up (or leave) a habit. Instead of making resolutions for the new year, why not aim to make a total of 12 resolutions for the whole year? Decide what change you want to make each month, and start on the first day of the new month! By the end of the month your resolution has become a habit and you can move on to the next one! This makes sustaining multiple resolutions easier.
