Making goals that are too far out of reach can be debilitating. It is fine to have a long term goal, but create intermediate goals along the path to reaching that long term goal. If your goal is to walk/run a 5K, pick a time to accomplish 1K, and a time to accomplish 2K, and 3K, and 4K. Then it is just a step to reach the 5K goal. I am approaching my 4K goal ahead of schedule.
