Changing my thinking from how hard it is to get up each morning and exercise to how great exercise makes me feel helps me to stay focused on the long-term goal, and not the short-term obstace (i.e. "I don't feel like exercising now" or "I don't have the energy.") You get the idea.
It helps me to carry a 3 x 5 card in my pocket and/or purse with positive reminders of why I exercise. Examples are: how free from pain my back is as I strengthen it, or how great it is to fit into the smaller size clothes in my pocket!
