If you're a 'Do-it-Yourselfer' you know that keeping tools in your toolbox means looking for the right tool when you need one. I put up a peg-board next to my work-bench and put my tools on the peg-board (hammers with hammers, screwdrivers in descending sizes, regular Phillips, hex, etc.). I then outlined each tool then filled in the outline with black paint. Now I can tell at a glance if a tool is missing and I track it down and put it back in it's place. I don't walk all over (cont)
trying to find tools now. It has saved me 5-10 minutes every time I start a project and forces me to put tools back after I use them. However, my DW still hasn't caught on.

When tackling a big organization project, before and after pictures are a great motivation tool. Also, whenever organizing a closet, remove EVERYTHING and put it into 3 piles: keep, toss, donate. Go to http://nomorecounting.blogspot.com to see how to organized a disaster linen closet.
A new friend was visiting, & like a lot of guy visits we wound up in my garage. On entry, he became excited by how my tools were organized. Years ago I got tired of tracking down tools (sons, you know), so I bought a 4' x 8' pegboard, painted it gray & hung it next to my work table. I separated all my tools (screwdrivers, hammers, etc.) by category & hung them from the pegboard with hooks, from large to small. After hanging them, I traced an outline of each tool, then filled in the
outline in different colors by category. I see at a glance if a tool is missing & can track it down quickly & re-hang. I kept one toolbox & when I need to do a job around the house I just carry the tools I'll need to use. When the project is complete I take the box back & re-hang my tools.
