It's so easy to spend a little bit here and there, and end up frittering away hundreds. For a month, get a receipt for everything you buy and put it in a jar. At the end of the month, you'll have a clear picture of your spending habits and you can identify where you can cut back.

MORE INFORMATION:
You also think twice about spending if you know you're going to have to track it.

We keep all of our receipts to scan into Paperless, a software program that tracks spending.

love the idea, i also put my receipts under a paper weight and i can see where i used cash or c.c. all the little expenditures add up, especially when you have lunch with friends.

I have been thinking about buying the Quicken program to help with the tracking. My brother in law has been doing this for years and now that I am strapped I understand the reasoning. wish I did it a long time ago! emoticon
