November is Diabetes Awareness Month, and November 14 is World Diabetes Day. These global events will help improve the education and care of everyone touched by diabetes. To support these efforts and help you take control of your diabetes, we've created a special section within Diabetic Connect. Even living with diabetes takes practice in making healthy choices every day. I have succeeded in living with diabetes without medications (at one point I was taking 3 diabetes meds), and the only way I can stay off meds is to practice every day: 94 ounces of water, eating 6 small meals, and at

least 30 minutes of cardio (working my way up from walking to jogging), strength training 3-4 times a week, portion control, surrounding myself with positive people, tracking food, & reading Spark People articles & member blogs. I will always be a diabetic even without meds, so I must practice.
I think the most important thing I learned and am still learning, is that it is what it is!! I have Diabetes. I can control my BS, but Diabetes doesn't disappear. It took me months to admit that. To help control it, I do aerobic walking, mild strength exercises, drink lots of water,& limit carbs.
