I am one of those people who needs something more concrete than a number on a scale to get excited about. So I remind myself that every 8 pounds I lose is equal to a gallon of milk. Now, knowing how bulky and heavy a gallon of milk is, makes an 8 pound loss feel much more substantial and more emotionally satisfying that just a small movement on a scale. Small losses are significant, when you think about them in concrete terms.
2 pounds = 1 quart of milk 4 pounds = 1/2 gallon of milk 8 pounds = 1 gallon of milk 20 pounds = 1 very large turkey
