I am finding out that making a specific space for things declutters. I am using crackers tins, shoes boxes--everyday items as storage containers. Use your imagination and get your kids involved. It helps them to put things away.

That's a great idea. They say cereal boxes work great to organize your papers too. And then they can go on a shelf.

funny you should mentio that. i'm saving some yogurt containers for the little things that come out of pockets and to put little misc. stuff into that gets thrown into drawers. used to buy the big soft cheese that comes in a sturdy box. i don't miss the cheese, but sure loved those boxes!

A place for things and fun boxes are great. I use a lot of baskets but I live alone so I don't have to worry. The various cardboard boxes are great to have decorated by the kids. A friend of mine finds stickers that designate what goes in the box (if nothing else she makes them on the computer). The kids then place the stickers on the boxes as a fun project and then it helps keep them organized. For instance anything to do with coloring has crayons on the box, or pencils. Painting supplies have paint brushes and splashes of color, etc.

I like to find rectangular tins with lids. I have three in my junk drawer and they really help . I have scissors and sharp things in there so it helps.

Places Everybody
I have specific places for things that I use (Office supplies, cleaning supplies.) That way I save time looking for things.
If I find that things are getting "borrowed" and taken to other rooms, I purchase a similar item (in a coordinating color) to go in the other room.

I have fallen in love with fruit. It has taken the place of things that I used to eat way too often like cookies and other sweets. Right now, berries are ripe and in season and inexpensive. Watermelon will be coming soon as well. Yummy! Fruit is the best dessert ever.
