especially for indian food, which involves carb-loaded meals with Rotis, Naans and basmati rice,

Serve yourself 1 roti OR 1 cup rice, some entree
then,

Decorate the rest of the plate with SALAD, Raw Veggies, low-fat Yogurt raita. the plate will look full and satisfying without loading up on extra carbs!

u will think twice before reaching for extra naans, rotis and second helpings of rice!!! emoticon

    Roti or Chapati is unleavened flat bread made of wheat. kind of like a wheat tortilla (Most indians eat this on a daily basis and NOT naan, which is leavened and made of white flour)

Always order the roti/chapati when u eat out at an indian restaurant since it is MUCH lighter and healthier than naan.

Yogurt raita is my favorite - it is a salad ...
blend some low-fat plain yogurt to make it smooth, add diced cucumbers, salt, pepper, cumin powder, and chopped green chillies. Chill before serving. (you can add onions, tomatoes, too !)

    well, I love parathas, aloo parathas , gobi parathas, my secret is to walk to the store to buy the ingredients, then don't use the lift, I bring the shopping up coming up the stairs, and then cook it from raw ingredients, at the end... I am lucky if I get to finish the first paratha. (By the way to use pure ghee is also important).
