They may contain less calories, but they will DESTROY your health! Is that worth it? Are you more concerned with the idea of being skinny than living a long healthy life. You should be concerned with insulin resistance which will mess with your ability to lose weight and keep it off. Are you willing to sacrifice remembering your life and loved ones? Are you willing to get cancer? Would you like anxiety, depression, headaches, seizures or tremors?

Aspartame (nutrisweet) added to anything gives me an instant headache so I do not trust artificial sweeteners.

I have tried Stevia Plus in my fruit smoothies but I think I'll just sweeten them with a banana from now on.

One sweetener I don't worry about is stevia. The oldest soft drink still available in the US: Vernor's Ginger Ale used stevia for over a century before the FDA banned it in 1991 causing them to switch to high fructose corn syrup. You'd think the fact that it had been in use so long here, in South America, and Asia would cause the FDA to consider stevia GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) but as an herbal sweetener it can't be patented and it threatened the financial interests of the chemical companies who make asparatame and other non-nutritive sweeteners so the FDA as usual protects the interests of corporations instead of the health of consumers. Recently Coke and Pepsico have introduced their own stevia based sweeteners and so the FDA quickly changed course. Money talks.

I have been consuming artificial sugar since i was 13. I am now 56 and have had no ill effects of it.
Please watch where you get your information.

The only true study at this time that just became available is that aspartame is a carcinogen, but only recently was it defined as such. By the way, a carcinogen is a cancer-causing substance. I haven't heard anything bad about Splenda or Truvia (stevia sweetener), just Equal and Sweet-N-Low. Splenda does not inhibit weight loss because it wasn't until I switched to Splenda did my weight loss start to increase. I only use Splenda as a sweetener in my coffee in the morning and I also drink mix packets like Crystal light that use it as a sweetener, but not very often. The only tea I drink is herbal tea and I only drink it hot, therefore I use honey for that.

To those that posted this, everyone has their own idea of what causes cancer and what doesn't but if you want real information please check out the FDA's website.

I too use stevia and love it. I do use xylitol too, but more so the stevia. I use a xylitol toothpaste as xylitol has shown to improve and protect gum health.

I take my use of sources very seriously. Even the FDA warns of artificial sweetner consumption.

I agree with this "secret" completely. One of the other commenters asked for proof --

In addition to the dangers from the way aspartame is metabolized in the body, sucralose (Splenda) is manufactured from sugar but includes a chlorine molecule in the process. Chlorine interferes with the bodies ability to lose weight.
GALSMILEY7 10/14/2010 10:26:00 AM

Do you have definitive proof of that? I see a lot of rumors and "info" on the internet about it, but are there true studies that prove that?
RITAROSE 10/14/2010 9:59:00 AM

I recently saw a utube video about the dangers of aspartame and several foods that are being genetically engineered to increase infertility and low fertility. It was a wake up call to me to eat clean and stay away from artificial sweetners. It's hard, but I want my good health!!
