Secrets of Success

Relocating Items, Repositioning, And Stacking, Is Not Decluttering

FlyLady has a saying: You Can't Organize Clutter. Although you CAN organize clutter you're wasting your time. Your belongings have to FIT in the space available, in a peaceful unclogged manner.

Have 2 trash bags ready (black so you can't see through them to remove items).Take the Trash out immediately when the timer goes off, & take the Donate bag to the car immediately, so both are OUT of your home. You haven't decluttered until the items leeeeeeeeeave (cont'd).

More Information:

Put the Keep items in a laundry basket, & before you go to bed go thru ea room dropping off items, & picking up anything that doesn't belong. Empty it B4 bed. Put small things that need to be glued or mended in a small basket by the phone, so you can do them during your next phone conversation.

  • This was exactly what I needed to hear this morning as i need to de=clutter the tables that are on either side of my computer chair. THANKS! - by RITAROSE
  • If only it were that simple....some of us are frozen...unable to do that. - by CHAS1949
  • I really needed to hear that too. I tend to just move clutter from one croweded area to another. What I need to do is get rid of it period. - by KLPEFFERS
  • I think it is excellent advise to put the donate bag immediately in the car. I keep ending up sorting clothing and other items, setting aside those I want to donate in a bag or box, and then it somehow gets opened up again and all of the work is wasted and the mess is even worse than when I started! - by UNIQUEBLUE
  • CHAS set a timer and do just 15 mins.

You can do ANYTHING for 15 mins!

If you can't do 15 mins, then do 10 or 5 or 2.

  • With clothes it is a lot easier than it is with the stuff. With clothes if I haven't worn it in a year or it doesn't fit, it goes to Goodwill. The stuff is more difficult because there is always a sentimental connection to it, that always makes it harder. - by SOFEDUPP
