My dietitian tells me I can eat whatever I want - not to deprive myself. But she also cautions portion control. What I have learned is that the first two bites of something tastes the best. SO I try to stick to two bites. That way I can still get a taste of it but not overindulge.
Anytime I am about to eat something that is high-cal (e.g. dessert) I think about how much satisfaction I will get from that first bite. The satisfaction with the second bite is a little bit lower than the first. And so on. So I choose however many bites I think I can balance between enjoying myself and not overeating, always remembering that no bite will ever taste as good as the first!
I joined Weight Watchers over two years ago. I lost 90% of my weight through them and still practice many of their ideas. One I truly love is the Three Bite Rule. When we crave something the first bite is really memorable. The second bite is almost as memorable as the first. The last bite savory and sums up the memory. Therefore all we need are three bites. Not diet is ever broken over three bites.
