I find that if I do a bit of web-search before eating out I tend to eat healthier. Sometimes I don't even realize how many calories a food item has. By doing some pre-planning I can make better food selections when I dine out.

I've found that this a fantastic idea. I especially nice when a restaurant's website has an easy to use tool to calculate nutrition information. One place that is super easy is Panera. I go there once a week to kill time between work and class and I always try to find healthy options. It even allows you take take off things such as mayo or cheese and it give you the updated information. It really is a great tool!
