I volunteer several days a week at a local no-kill dog shelter. I go early in the mornings and walk dogs for 3-4 hours, non stop. Its great exercise, great for the dogs, and a huge help to an entirely volunteer run organization.

Find a local farmer who does Community Supported Agriculture and subscribe.
I started doing this when my kids were small and I was really poor. I saved hundreds of dollars, increased the quality of our produce enormously, and gave us fun farm visits. Most will have drop off points near you. It feels great to know who grows your food!
A secret for success in my life regarding health and fitness has been the use of SparkPeople as a way of connecting with others, throughout the world, who are in the same boat as I. This community of supportive believers in good health through diet and exercise has been for me a well-house of information, support and great conversation. I have been able to connect with people who have the same interests as I and who support me and encourage me in my diet and exercise goals.
Although, I totally agree that message boards provide an AMAZING support system - I have been floored by how much support I have gotten from a simple "I need Help" on a Team Huddle board.
