i've kept a food journal for a few years now. i put my calories taken in, steps i've walked, any exercises i've done, my daily weight, the weather, anything of interest.

I started my diet in 2/09 with WW and have lost 33 lbs since then. It may not seem like much, but I can't do much physical exercise due to various arthritic and nerve damage. The food journal is what keeps me going. When I don't track, I don't lose. It makes me aware of what I put in my mouth.
Keeping a food journal. Start out with just writing down what you are eating with no judgements or calorie counting. The journal helps you to become aware of what you are really eating and can give you insight as to why you are eating and when are problem times and foods.
Keeping a food journal is the key to weight maintenance. When you plan your food daily you will be sure to get all the food groups covered and keep you from eating food that could cause you to regain the weight.

Also make sure you make exercise a daily activity. I keep it as an appointment and go the same time each day so I'm sure to get it done.
