Fear of red wine stains probably keeps more fine linens on the shelf than on the table. Here's a easy way to get rid of red wine stains. Wet the stain with luke-warm water, then add a layer of table salt. Rub, & let it sit for 5 minutes. Pull the fabric taut across a heat-proof bowl, & secure with a rubber band. Place in sink, and carefully pour boiling water on the stain from a height of 3 feet. The combined pressure & heat of the water will eliminate the stain.

If red wine is on the menu, keep a large container of salt on hand. Pouring salt on a red wine stain right away will soak up most of the stain and may have to sit on the stain overnight. Vacuum up the salt, quickly pre-treat the stain with “Shout,” and then wash the area with cold water.
