If I wear something for just a little while and don't want to throw it in the laundry, I hang the hanger backwards in my closet. Then, I can tell that piece of clothing didn't just come out of the laundry, but it is still clean enough to wear.

I read your idea and started practicing it. After about a month, my DW asked if I started wearing my clothes longer, because it seemed my laundry bag was full much less often. When I told her what I had done, she laughed and said she had noticed it because laundry now went much quicker. I do anything to help out this lady saint who's put up with me for 40 years.
