Shop at places like Costco and Sam's & you'll save money, right? Maybe so, maybe not. How long will it take you to eat a case of baked beans and how will you feel about another can of baked beans before you'll EVER buy another can. Don't buy bulk in fruits, vegetables. 90% of the time you will find yourself throwing away the savings. Unless you have a large freezer available, taking advantage of one type of frozen vegetable or meat will have you going to a fast food place before you eat another
boneless, skinless chicken breast.
My DW and I have found that taking a friend to Costco gives us the savings and splitting the "bounty" gives us plenty of variety.
I buy bulk fresh chicken and bake 1/3 of it right away (store in ziploc for quick access to add to salad or take as a main dish for lunches). The remaining 2/3 I use for meals later (see below)
For the remaining 2/3, I divide into 2 gallon ziplocs and add ingredients (search google for freezer dump meals) then freeze (don't cook the chicken yet). On the day I need them, I thaw them that morning and bake that night. Just add a veggie and you're set - good food AND fast!
Even with the healthier whole grain Crackers, Chips, Pretzels...every good intention of sticking with the recommended serving size becomes defeat if the box is within sight. SO, I decided to count out the serving size into little baggies...now I have the right amount each time no guesswork after the meal...guilt free! Slows down my eating because what you see is what you get. Saves money buying bulk instead of individual packages and baggies can be used more than once. 148
