Instead of buying pre-made food, we'll cook and freeze our own to control sodium and calories. For example, when on the BBQ, we'll thrown on extra chicken, then freeze it; great with salad, in chicken pot pie or with pasta. Or we'll cook 5 lbs of lean hamburger with onions and garlic, and freeze it in one-serving packages. My son and his pals will use it for burritos or quesadillas. The possibilities are endless!

Cooking Spray has become my best friend. In addition to using for stove top cooking, I have now discovered that if I spray it on things like oven fries, potato wedges, chicken strips, and other food items that are meant to be fried instead of baked, the cooking spray will crisp them up and leave them moist. It is a healthier and still tasty way to serve my kids' convenience foods.
Cooking spray. If you prefer to make it yourself, you can add oil oilor any other oil to a pump sold by Pampered Chef.
Keep something healthy and convenient at the front of your fridge so you can grab it quickly when you need something NOW. Whether you pre-package your own portions or use grocery store convenience foods like carrot snack packs, it will make a huge difference in what you eat if it's something easy for you to grab.
You can pre-portion salad into bowls, pre-cut vegetables for snacking, and pre-portion nuts so you don't overdo it.
The best thing I did for my healthy lifestyle was invest in a small chest freezer and stacks of freezerware. I took one weekend, made about 10 different dishes, portioned them into individual servings, labeled them with necessary nutritional info, & froze for healthy instant convenience meals.
Being too tired to cook was always a weakness in a healthy lifestyle for me; convenience foods were either fattening or unsatisfying "diet meals," that lead me to overeat. Any time I cook fresh meals, leftovers are immediately measured out & added to cache, giving me lots of variety.
