I have the problem of setting goals too high, losing motivation, and giving up. So this time I decided I would use baby steps to achieve my goals. I set a goal of being able to walk at 3.5mph for 1 hr. The first day I walked as long as I could at speed. The next day I made myself walk at speed 3 more min. than the day before. Every day I added 3 more minutes until I reached my 1 hr goal. I have done the same with all my exercises. I start with what I can do and then add to it in small amounts.
Increasing by small amounts helps keep you motivated, it also helps you not hurt yourself by overdoing it right at the start of a new workout program. Though small amounts may not seem to matter daily they add up quickly. D1 10min D2 13 D3 16 D4 19 D5 22 D6 25 D7 28 Day 7 almost tripled Day 1!

Never thought I could, Never lose sight of the thought YOU CAN DO IT!
I had an illness many years ago which left me basically with incredible muscle fatigue. I gained a lot of weight (lost, gained, lost, gained). Over the past few years I have been able to get myself on track by FINDING MY FOCUS. What do I really want? I want to be healthier, stronger, feel better. I think the last one *to feel better* was the key. The more I focus on THAT thought, the more motivated I seem to become. It isn't easy when you have 'pounds' to lose in the seemingly uphill battle.
When you look at even taking baby steps you are taking 'that many steps FORWARD' (not backward). Baby steps can lead to bigger steps. You know once you get going it's NOT as bad (it's all in our heads!) I'm doing yoga now, something I NEVER thought I would be able to do. ITS AWESOME 334
I have my start page on my computer set to spark people, so the first thing I see in the morning is this site. Then I go to the sparkpoints and NO MATTER HOW I DID THE DAY BEFORE I go through each step and complete it. It educates me and motivates me to continue taking baby steps that I know will make a difference. I have time because I've made TAKING CARE OF ME my second job - and I'm worth it!
30 Day Challenge for Orgainization and setting Goals
My most helpful secret is keeping a "to-do" list to stay organized, I used to make it way too hard, but if kept simple, and taking baby steps to reach my goals every day, it has become not only easy, but do-able without failure.
If you would like more information on learning to set some goals and doing & keeping a "carefully crafted, diligently maintained to do list" here is a link to a free challenge: http://www.chalenejohnson.com/30daychallenge
