I started doing 5ks last year, but I have REALLY gotten into it in the last 2 months. I stay motivated by running between every race. I try to shave seconds off my time each time. I am also doing a few 5ks that are over an hour away, so I'm getting a hotel room on those weekends. It is nice to get out of the house every once in a while. I keep the numbers (they put on your shirt) and t-shirts as my own personal trophies. There is ALWAYS another racing coming up...

I can't run the entire 3.2 miles. I have to stop and walk some too. Crossing the finish line is worth it though!!

I really hate to exercise, it would cause so much pain. I needed to build up the muscles! So I started water jogging. Same benefits, much more fun, and no pain. You'll feel like noodle when you get out of the water though ;)

When running, and getting to a place where you feel you can't run any further, look for a spot 15 to 20 feet ahead of where you want to stop, and run to that spot. Then each time you run, run 15 to 20 feet PAST the spot you chose the run before.
