In order to remember what part of my midsection that I measured as my waist, I started taking pics of the exact locations of my body parts. Given that my body has lots of curves and rolls in the wrong places, taking measurements was very hard! Where is a waist on a 250+ woman with rolls on top of rolls? By taking pics of what I considered my waist at the time of my measurements, I figured out how to make monthly comparisons. Little things like this make a BIG difference with motivation!!

I did not take any "before" pictures. I guess I really did not have faith in myself that I would have success. Now, 100 lbs later, I wish I had taken measurements and pictures so I could see how far I have come. So, if you are just starting out, make sure to take measurements and pics!!
I normally try to do something perfect instead of trying to do everything perfect. With my lifestyle change and goals, i've started to track my food everyday, which i've been doing so well. I know i've not been good at tracking my measurements which i plan to start doing in January consistently. I'm consistent on my water, fruit, vegetables now and packing lunch for work. They all didn't come one day.
Take your measurements at the beginning of your weight loss journey. On the weeks you're not losing weight check your measurements again. Chances are that you may not have lost weight but you may have lost inches.
I really regret not taking my measurements. I know I've lost inches but I always wonder how much I've lost.
