First, plan on cooking extra with the idea you will freeze some. This saves time and energy later, make you less apt to go for pizza, burgers, or take-out. You can eat healthier when you can control the ingredients. Second, if you are tempted to go back for seconds, or more, be sure you plan to portion that out for future meals as well. You could use these for lunches or dinners, possible even for breakfast sometimes.
I eat a cup of baby carrots 20 minutes before a meal to tell my brain that I'm already filling up. That way I'm not tempted to go back for seconds or thirds. This is a particularly good trick when going out to eat or over to the in-laws.41
If you have a hard time being "good" at buffets (or holiday meals); try taking only 1-2 bites of each item. This way, you get to enjoy a variety of foods (the reason I go to buffets in the first place); and hopefully you can have the stuff that's not as good for you without overdoing it.
Another trick is to limit yourself to one plate of dinner, salad, and dessert. No going back for seconds
