In stead of throwing out stale Italian or French bread. Try spraying water lightly over loaf. Cut open and once again spray water lightly over the inside of loaf. Then warm in toaster oven at a light toast setting. Unless you want it toasted then choose the setting of your choice.

You can use this trick on rolls or uncut bread too. If one day old I usually put it in the microwave for 20-30 secs, or the oven for afew minutes to warm through. Just like fresh warm bread or rolls. If older, I either sprinkle the bread with water , or wrap it in a clean damp tea cloth, and put it in the oven for a few minutes longer. If using a tea cloth, remove after about 4 mins, and put back until the outside is beginning to form a soft crust. Alternatively, you can you can cut slits , say in a baguette, or cut rolls etc into halves or slices, and spread with a garlic/herb spread and make your own garlic bread. Large slices or halves of rolls can be toasted lightly on one or both sides and spread with tomato puree, decorated with sliced peppers etc and a sprinkling of cheese and made into individual pizzas. emoticon Yummy
