Sometimes I just have to have that sweet candy, especially the seasonal - Spice drops, candy corn, jelly beans, mini chocolate eggs, etc. I put a serving in a container and leave it on the kitchen counter and allow myself just one piece each time I go to the kitchen. This way I know I really want it rather than eating it mindlessly, plus I burn a couple calories before I eat it. This also works with M-n-M's; skittles, almonds, anything that has smaller pieces.
Sometimes I just can't help giving into a carb or sweet craving. However, when I do have it I always try to also eat a protein along with it. I eat my dark chocolate square, and then a handful of almonds. I want chips, but I'll grab a couple of slices of lunchmeat to go with it!
It helps satisfy you longer than just having an empty carb that will make you hungry in a few hours. It also helps me eat less of the not-so-good for me item. Want a cookie? Have a slice of low-fat cheese with it. Want some candy? Eat some of the leftover chicken before hand and you'll eat less!
