Normally with my meals I have a side, but usually it's not necessary. So if you're making a sandwich for lunch, tell yourself, I'll eat the sandwich, and if I'm still hungry when I'm done, then I'll have some pretzels. More often than not, you'll forget all about the side which cuts calories!

    Good idea, but this would only work for me if I didn't actually see the side. If it's out and in sight, then I eat it because I am of the "clean plate club" generation! I've really tried hard to leave even just a bite of food on my plate but I can't bring myself to waste the food!
