Secrets of Success

Explore Your Local Nature Trails

Check out the maintained nature trails in your area. They make a great change in routine, and they can be a lot of fun! Take the dog, the kids, the spouse, maybe even the in-laws, if they are likely to get lost enroute.... :D

More Information:

When I take my dog, I try to take a new trail every time, which challenges both my sense of direction and my fitness level. As an added bonus, Cooper is completely engaged during the walk, and completely exhausted at the end!

We even walk in snow, when it is not too deep. When it is deep, we can x-country ski at several places nearby. - by VAINVT

  • I am going to try this..with my cane! I do not walk very well, or very often, but, I think that the nature trails at our township recreation center, are groomed and some are short enough, that I can try this, with my husband and our dog. Might even go today..kind of rainy, so I shouldn't have to worry about seeing other people..well, really them seeing me...a fat old lady hiking! emoticon - by PYNETREE
My neck of the woods has some awesome conservation areas and they have benches placed here and there for when you can't find a tree stump or rock to rest on. So they have a little 'build up', but I don't let that distract me from the ducks and chipmunks. emoticon - by TRUCKER72
Our local trails are open in the summer and winter, so unless it is icy, you can put ice grippers on your boots and walk safely through the woods. - by VAINVT
