Give yourself a serving size of your meal and eat slowly, when you've finished, go and brush your teeth. Not only does the toothpaste make food taste terrible, but it also lets your mouth know you're done eating for awhile! It has helped me!
You can do this anywhere, even if you are out to dinner with friends, just pack a travel toothbrush/paste in your bag. Extra tip: if you drink water right after brushing your teeth or eating a mint, the fresh breath taste lasts longer!

If you've overindulged and are WAY over your calories, do NOT count the day as "blown" and keep eating--stop overeating RIGHT THEN, be kind to yourself over it, learn from the experience, and resolve to start anew from that second on!
I set my alarm on my cell phone for the time I eat breakfast , lunch and at 7:15 PM. My alarm plays a melody and I stop and think about the meal I will be eating. I pause and remember not to overeat or eat too fast. The 7:15 alarm reminds me to stop eating for the day.
