1day a month I shut myself away. I prepare by having everything I need or special things I will enjoy alone, food, drinks etc, shut off the phone and just sleep in, meditate-pray, write, whatever I feel. I feel great when I return to the world--rested and renewed.

I definitely love this idea. Our bodies need to rest both physically and mentally. Some people never realize how draining life in general can be.

Living abroad (not just taking a vacation in another country) is a great experience. One learns about another country, its customs, culture, & language. One learns to see one's own country from a different point of view. One sees that people are much the same everywhere, with similar concerns. One finds that other places are not better or worse than home, just different. And upon returning home, one appreciates one's native country all the more. (click title for more info)

After spending several years in South America, I learned to love the culture there, made wonderful friends, learned a new language. Living without electricity or running water certainly made me appreciate home, yet it made me see that people can be happy with so much less than one would expect.
When we go on vacation, my family puts the dirty clothes for the day in one pile. I put it in garbage bag (or Walmart plastic bags) and take home in one suitcase. Clothes we don't wear go in another suitcase. Then when we go home, the plastic bag(s) full of dirty clothes get quickly unpacked and thrown down the steps to the basement. Easy unpacking, and clean clothes a lot faster!
Save money on home entertainment and put what you would have spent on sitting on your backside into a vacation fund or something else special for you and/or your entire family
