To get my kids involved in their nutrition, I challenged my children, now 14,12 and 9 to see who could come up with the most nutritional meal. Each kid gets to cook one meal per week and we have an pride wall to show off the kids favorite recipes. We've done this for 10 years and the kids love choosing some of their meals.
My kids are young but whenever I can get them to help out I do...even if it means that it will take me longer or it won't be done perfectly. My kids are 4 years and 18 months. They help with the dishes, so while I empty the dishwasher of its plates and glasses, after removing the sharp knives, they will put away the spoons, forks and other utensils. I let my 4 year old daughter put face clothes in a stack, or put away underwear. Whenever they can help out they just love it and participate.
You need kids and some chores... :))
