We use one credit card for nearly all purchases to earn rewards. We ALWAYS pay off the balance in full each month. This works for two reasons: 1. all expenses are in one place and easily tracked, and 2. We actually MAKE money by using the card instead of cash. Usually +$25/mo!

I know that not everyone likes or needs credit cards, yet having a Target credit card allows me to save 5% on every purchase, large or small. I really appreciate that the 5% is taken off during the initial purchase, versus sending out points, rewards cards, etc. The key to having any type of credit card is paying it off in FULL - monthly! I never accrue interest, and I save some money on every day items.
If you want to maximize rewards credit cards by using them for everyday purchases, make sure to transfer that amount from your checking to your savinigs when you buy. When you get your credit card bill, the $ are there, just transfer back to checking to pay off the credit card bill in full.
Good way to avoid overspending and still get rewards or points on your credit card, and still be able to pay the bill in full when it comes due to avoid paying interest charges.
