If you have itchy ear canals (like I do!), try putting a good dollop of Polysporin Ointment with Lidocaine on the Q-tip first. The ointment base helps loosen wax, the Lidocaine deals with the sensation of itchiness and the antibiotic and lubricating action of the ointment helps prevent infections from the harsh rub of the cotton strands which can create furrows in the sensitive tissue. No one recommends using Q-tips in your ears but if you HAVE to, try it this way.
Make sure you get the ointment, not the cream! The makers of Polysporin used to call this product "Lidosporin" but I think now you have to look carefully at the packaging to make sure there is Lidocaine in it.
At home Ear Ache and Ear Infection Cure (or at least help)
If you or one of your kids has an ear ache whether from an ear infection or from swimming, fill a CLEAN white tube sock with epsom salts, tie a knot on the open end to close and heat in the microwave until comfortably hot (not burning). Squish with your fingers to soften any hard spots. Now lay down with your sore ear ontop of the sock. The heat helps ease the pain and the epsom salts draw out the moisture which is part of the infection. Works on everyone from the very young (babies) to the very old.
Just make sure that the sock is COMFORTABLY hot or warm, NOT BURNING. If you heat it too much just let it air cool, making sure you squish it around too. Both to even out the temperature so there are not hot spots & to get rid of hard spots. 88

Since I have been sick lately,I have been doing alot of reading from The Doctors Book of Food Remedies by Selene Yeager and the editors of Prevention Magazine.It seems the FOODS that FIGHT INFECTION are FRUITS & VEGGIES! They contain GLUTATHIONE which causes the immune system to release specialized cells that fight the viruses!So getting sick is making me EAT HEALTHIER!
