When I started SP, besides having a mental attitude that this time I was going to be able to get to my goal, I started measuring and weighing everything. I also used a smaller plate than the large dinner plate we always used.492496289267319237
I don't "clean my plate" anymore either. It's alright to not eat it all and when you grow up, you don't have to eat the things you don't like because there are plenty of alternatives that are healthy, too. You just have to learn to substitute the healthy for the quick and easy thoughtless ways.
I don't remember where I first saw or heard this quote but I thought that it really makes sense. Start today by leaving at least one bite on your plate every time you eat. Learn to recognize when you begin to feel full then STOP eating. It takes your brain much longer than your stomach to realize that you're full.
I always felt so guilty if I don't eat everything on my plate. I'm breaking this habit and I will literally throw food away if I have to. To avoid this, I just try to put less on my plate or set the rest aside for a snack or another meal.
