During a children's moment each Sunday at my Church the children collect change in cans for special events. This year we have collected enough change to purchase and fill with school supplies 80 backpacks for the needy in our community, 2 wheelchairs for a special projects and send 6 youth to camp.
So small change does go a long way.

I make a goal for myself to make one small change for the better every week. These small changes have added up fast. It can be like, eat one vegetable every day. Or, this week I started composting. Smaller is better. Small changes are easy to stick with. You can add to them later.
Examples of my small changes I've made over the last 3 months: Bike to school, drink water instead of soda, walk my son to school, walk the dog every day. As my confidence builds, my changes get bigger. I quit smoking this way! I bike 50 miles a week now!
