Those of us in hurricane country should be stocking up our hurricane supplies now. I buy several packets of the Starkist pre-made tuna salad since the sealed packets don't need refrigeration and I won't need to open the refrigerator door to get mayo. I also buy trail mix bars for the same reason.
When the power is off it is important not to open the refrigerator or freezer doors and let the warm air in. With the ready made tuna salad, a fresh loaf of bread, individual fruit cups and juice boxes, and granola bars I can do that. I also wash out plastic milk containers to fill with water.

Surprised? Popcorn is good for you as long as you don't cover it with loads of butter. Not to mention that 3 cups of popcorn=1 serving of grain (surprised?)! Instead of butter, try adding popcorn seasoning that you can find in your local grocery store.
You can also use BBQ seasoning (the powder in the shakers). I once found, in the store, a man sampling BBQ seasoning. He was sampling it on popcorn. I tried it, and couldn't believe how tasty it made the popcorn. I bought the seasoning simply so I could put it on popcorn!
a) sauteed onions Season before browning - the seasoning draws out the water which helps to soften the onions. They will take a few more minutes to brown but the flavour is excellent and the onions will be meltingly tender.
b) scrambled eggs Season before scrambling to ensure tender scrambled eggs. If you season after cooking the texture will be more rubbery. c) steak Season 30 - 40 minutes before cooking and allow the meat to come to room temperature before cooking.
