I find it difficult to put a specific amount into savings each pay period. Therefore, when I get paid, I pay all of my bills, buy groceries, gas and etc. The evening before my next paycheck, I transfer the balance from checking to savings. The saving amounts will differ, but the savings grows.
Every week I see the store savings and coupon savings on my grocery receipt and it's all lies. I didn't save anything. I just didn't spend it -- yet. So, after giving this issue some thought I decided that I would take this as a requirement for saving and transfer it to my savings account.
As soon as I get home from the store I transfer the amount of store/coupon savings from my checking account to my savings account. Then I've actually saved money. So don't be fooled that not having spent it is a savings!
