When going out on my morning walks, I wear weights around my ankles and I carry dumbbells with me too to work out my arms while I walk.

I'm sure this increases the amount of calories I burn in addition to the walking.

MORE INFORMATION:
You can get the leg weights and dumbbells at any local sporting goods store and they're very reasonable. I think I paid approx $10-$12 for the leg weights and I think the dumbbells were $15-$20.

    As the others have said, you should NOT wear weights while walking or running. It affects your gait and will lead toinjuries down the road.

    The others are right, the ankle weights can mess up your knees bad, I know. If you want to wear weights get a weight vest and weights. This put the extra weight over your whole body and you can increase or decrease weight via taking the weights out of or putting them into the pockets.

    According to this Sparkpeople article, its not a good idea to wear wrist and ankle weights while walking;
